After a free spending summer, Everton have perhaps not made the start to the Premier League season that fans would have wanted.

The Toffees currently sit in 11th place in the league, having only won three of their opening eight games of the season. Part of that is down to under performing players for the club, one of which is Cenk Tosun.

The Turkey international joined the club in January this year, and was touted as the solution to Everton's deficiencies up front. The forward made a respectable start to his Premier League career under Sam Allardyce, scoring five goals in 14 appearances.

However, he has not been so successful this season, only managing one goal for the club in the league. New manager Marco Silva's patience with the striker has clearly grown thin, as he has been dropped to the bench for the last three games.

The Portuguese has preferred either 21-year-old Dominic Calvert-Lewin or winger Richarlison over the former Beşiktaş striker. The very fact that he has modified a player's position simply to avoid starting Tosun goes to show how little he regards the 27-year-old.

The trouble is, there aren't going to be many opportunities for the forward to find form and win over his manager. This is the beginning of a spiral where he will get worse and worse. On the other hand, Silva cannot afford to play him, as his job may be on the line if the club fails to get results.

Everton's team for the rest of the season is starting to take shape, and Tosun certainly does not seem to be a central figure in it. But it's unclear what he can do about it.
