Alan Pardew and Newcastle United are the perfect example of just how quickly things can change in football for the better.
This time last month, it seemed Pardew was destined to become the first Premier League manager of the season to be shown the exit door, with the Magpies languishing in the relegation zone and the supporters having turned on the team.
But four wins on the spin against Leicester City, Tottenham, Liverpool and West Bromwich Albion has seen the Magpies leap up the table to seventh place, above the likes of Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham, level on points with Manchester United and just a single point behind Arsenal.
Whilst Pardew’s position looked untenable just a few short weeks ago, now the Magpies are on course for European qualification, and those calling for the managers head appear to have been silenced.
His summer signings have come to the fore in recent weeks as well, and it looks as though Mike Ashley will reward Pardew for turning things around with further funds to strengthen this winter.
Here, we have gone through the rumours and identified five players we think will be on Pardew’s January transfer wishlist.
