It has been a nightmare start to the 2014/15 season for Liverpool in what has proved to be a major disappointment following the success of last season.
Saturday’s home defeat to Chelsea left the Reds a massive 15 points behind the league leaders and put to bed any lingering hopes of a title challenge, the sort which captured the imagination of the Anfield faithful last season.
The permanent loss of Luis Suarez and the temporary loss of Daniel Sturridge has hit the Reds hard, whilst new signings – the likes of Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert, Lazar Markovic, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Emre Can – are yet to make any sort of consistent impact.
The Reds currently find themselves 11th in the Premier League and are facing a fight to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League following three consecutive group stage defeats.
Brendan Rodgers currently finds himself under pressure like he has never experienced before at Anfield, but the majority of the supporters and most importantly the owners are backing him to turn things around.
Whether he will be given funds to spend in January remains to be seen but here we have identified five players who may well be on the Liverpool managers January wishlist.
