Liverpool have had a very solid summer so far, with new faces including Naby Keita, Fabinho and Alisson all arriving at Anfield in recent weeks. But could a few more players join the club?
The World Cup will, undoubtedly, have had an impact on plans at the club, and it may have provided a sense of opportunity. Jurgen Klopp was likely watching with a keen eye, perhaps with a view to making a few more additions, and he will have been impressed with what he saw.
Many players will have increased their stock as a result of their performances, and so perhaps Klopp will look to buy one of the standout figures at the tournament. One such example that would be a very good fit is Columbia star Yerry Mina.
Yerry Mina only moved to Barcelona earlier in 2018, but having yet to really feature for the club, perhaps a departure could be on the cards. Liverpool, then, should be on red alert.
Mina was one of the standout performers for Columbia over in Russia. A dominant figure, his towering frame is enough to terrify the opposition alone, and he was a real menace for every one of the games he played for his country. Strong, robust, and standing at a whopping 6ft4, he has just the sort of frame that would do well in the Premier League.
That being said, he’s also very solid with the ball at his feet, and so he would certainly be able to adjust to Pep Guardiola’s style of play.
Liverpool’s defensive issues have been well documented. Dejan Lovren’s form has been mixed over the last year, and it’s fair to say that Virgil van Dijk deserves a far better partner. Based on his World Cup form, Mina would be a great choice.
