Manchester United fans left the Football Transfer Tavern happy for perhaps the only time in 2014 last night, as Robin van Persie inspired a Champions League comeback against Olympiakos.
United’s season hit new lows on Sunday, when bitter rivals Liverpool came away from Old Trafford with a 3-0 victory – which in truth could have been five or six.
David Moyes had found himself under the most pressure of his tenure so far heading into last night’s last 16 clash, but an inspired selection of Ryan Giggs in midfield played a big part in United turning things around.
The beleaguered United boss may have bought himself a bit of time with last nights win, and the quarter-finals of the Champions League will give United fans something to look forward to for the remainder of the season.
But next year will be the true test of whether Moyes has what it takes to be Manchester United manager for the long-term, after he has had a full summer to rebuild the squad.
Should United choose to stick with their man, Moyes will have a big transfer budget to go out and shape the squad the way in which he wants
