Manchester United are set to launch a £15m bid for Rennes’ midfielder Yann M’Vila. Sir Alex Ferguson has been busy throughout the transfer window, spending in excess of £50m to acquire the services of Phil Jones, Ashley Young, and David De Gea. However, according to CaughtOffside.com, the Scot is not finished in the market just yet and is considering the French international as a potential replacement for the recently retired Paul Scholes.
United had been linked with both Samir Nasri and Wesley Sneijder, however with Nasri now looking set to join the blue half of Manchester, and Inter Milan placing a valuation on the Dutchman believed to be no less than £37m, Sir Alex looks to have turned his attentions to the 21-year-old who has impressed during his time at Rennes.
M’Vila would certainly be a welcome addition to this ‘new generation’ of players that Ferguson hopes will compete strongly on all fronts. The defensive, or ‘holding’ midfielder role, has had rather limited success at Old Trafford with the likes of Anderson, Gibson and Fletcher unable to provide the consistency that M’Vila has demonstrated in Ligue 1.
At a reported £15m, some may consider this a bit of a gamble by Ferguson. However, as with both Jones and De Gea, players of youth and ability are all the rage at the moment, and M’Vila could well turn out to be a bargain at this fee. Such a valuation does not seem excessive in the current transfer window and, if anything, this signing would be a calculated risk by Ferguson and one that is surely worth taking.
