Manchester United is apparently considering a move for Deportiva La Coruna’s Mexican winger Andres Guardado. United have been tracking the pint size player for several years and were linked to him when he left Atlas to join Deportivo.
Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to add some creativity to his midfield with the likes of Nani and Carrick having not performed to standard last season.
Andres Guardado is a left sided winger. He’s twenty two and has been regularly one of Deportivo’s best players for the last three seasons. He’s also been linked to Real Madrid and Benfica. He’s scored ten goals for Deportivo in three years, though his main contribution is through creating chances for others. He’s a good set piece taker, and while being tricky going forward he tracks back and doesn’t mind doing some defending.
United were linked with Mesut Ozil during the summer, but with him signing for Madrid it seems Guardado is the new target. He’s an attractive option for United, reports say an offer of around £12m would be accepted due to Deportivo’s financial problems.
The signing of Javier Hernandez could prove to be a focal point of this potential transfer signing. Hernandez has contact with Guardado through the Mexican national team, for whom they both play. Both were part of Mexico’s 2010 World Cup campaign, in which Guardado impressed. No doubt Fergie will be telling young Hernandez to get in his mate’s ear.
Andres Guardado would seem a sensible buy for United, he looks to have the ability to hack it in the Premiership and would be available at a knock down price.
