I have been prattling on for weeks now telling any soul in the Tavern that this Neymar story is getting tortured and showing no signs of conclusion. Even Derek the drunk slumped under the wides-screen TV in the corner is sick of the Brazilians name, and normally he can’t even remember where the front door is.
It appears that Chelsea are pouring water on the rumours that they are desperate to sign the prodigal forward this Summer, with reports in recent days suggesting that Carlo Ancelotti won’t necessarily move for him. That today has bought about stories saying that other sides are now leading the way, and the team tipped by The Express is Manchester United.
The 19 year old, who has become one of the most sought after players on the planet, was very close to a move to Stamford Bridge last Summer before the player ultimately pulled the plug and decided to stay for another season in his native country. His form for Santos again has been excellent and he has managed 3 goals in 3 international games, not a bad record!
It was believed by many that Chelsea were the players preferred choice when he spoke about his love for London after Brazil’s recent friendly against Scotland at the Emirates, but it now appears that Manchester United and specifically Sir Alex Ferguson are ready to use their contacts to secure the player.
There are very few clubs around that could afford to trigger the minimum sell clause in his contract and it looks likes Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid are now locked in a battle for the player. The figure required to talk to the forward is a whopping £40million, and it is seems likely that only these 4 clubs are in a position to afford him.
The players agent is Wagner Ribeiro but interestingly his other advisor is Pini Zahavi who just happens to be very close to Manchester Unite maestro Sir Alex Ferguson. The fiery Scot is hoping that this relationship will help him secure the player whom he see’s as the ideal man to replace Ryan Giggs.
It seems a strange development in my eyes, Sir Alex rarely goes after these cocky and somewhat petulant talents, but Neymar is such a good player, that he may attempt to work with him. Should be manage to keep him on the straight and narrow there is no doubt what a fine player he would be at Old Trafford, and there aren’t many better managers in the world at managing difficult characters than Sir Alex.
I am still not certain that he will end up at Manchester United, I still can’t help but think it will be Chelsea, but this saga is really hotting up, or maybe its just dragging on, I suppose it depends on your perspective!
