Sir Alex’s Scouts Find £20m Rated Replacement For The 21Aging Rio

Despite Man United’s strong League performance, questions still remain over many parts of their squad, none more so than defence. Despite the emergence of Jones and Smalling, there has also been the decline of Rio, now 33. Sir Alex seems to have found a long term solution for his defensive worries in 26 year old Frenchman Adil Rami.

The Mail tells that United Scouts were seen watching Rami during his side Valencia’s recent victory over Stoke.

However, United may face competition from Barcelona for the player, and The Mail also reports the player is currently valued at around £20 million. Valencia have the player tied to a long term contract and will not let him leave cheaply, especially as they aim to fight for La Liga themselves.

More worrying still for United is whether the player would want to leave.

“I am only thinking about Valencia and fighting for a title such as the Copa del Rey,”

Rami told Valencia’s local news outlet Superdeporte.

“I want to become a historical player for this club because I am happy here. The people have been sensational to me”,

“La Liga is more important than the Premier League. In England it is much more physical; that’s not a problem for me, but I prefer to touch the ball.”

But as we know, words are cheap in football, and Rami also admitted to being flattered by United’s interest;

“I would prefer not to talk about (the rumours) but obviously I’m pleased. It means that I am performing well and that is what I want.”

Despite Rami’s words Man United may still push ahead with the deal and The Sun reports they are willingly to pay whatever’s necessary to land the Center back. United fans may be pleased to see that, after a quiet January, the club can still throw it’s weight around when needed, and that funds will be available in the summer.
