Chelsea could be turning to one of Andre Villas Boas’s former players as the 33 year-old looks to strengthen his central midfield with the €15m rated Fernando, according to tribalfootball.co.uk. The Brazilian midfielder would be a direct replacement for the injured Michael Essien.
Sky Italia have reported that the London club are in pole position to land the the 24 year-old ahead of Juventus and Inter Milan. The Italian giants have been put off by the Portuguese champion’s price-tag.
Chelsea have been linked to the likes of Joao Moutinho and Scott Parker in recent months as Boas looks to strengthen his squad at Stamford Bridge. Nicknamed the ‘Octopus’ for his ability to win back possession, Fernando could be the perfect tonic for Chelsea’s Essien induced headache.
