The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are loving life under Antonio Conte…
The Italian delivered a Premier League title during his first season at the club, and the fans in the pub are touting him for even more success in the months and years to come.
However, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher doesn’t think that Conte will have the chance to earn much success beyond the end of the season – having claimed that he doesn’t think that the Italian will be in charge of the Blues this time next year.
As per Sky Sports on Twitter, he said: “I’d be very surprised if I’m sitting here in 12 months…and he’s the Chelsea manager”.
Carragher goes on to discuss his reasoning, and he makes a number of good points. Between the sale of Nemanja Matic and the lack of influence that Conte has in terms of transfers, the prospect of him departing the club on bad terms doesn’t seem so far off the mark.
Indeed, speculation has been rife on Conte’s future all summer long, and that has left the fans in the Transfer Tavern feeling very concerned indeed. Carragher’s opinion, which is highly valued in the Transfer Tavern, is only going to add more wood to the fire.
Antonio Conte has been fantastic for Chelsea, but the cracks are beginning to show. The lack of transfer activity this summer is undoubtedly causing friction, and at this point, their relationship could go one of two ways.
If the Chelsea brass backs Conte over the next few weeks with big money, he could have a successful campaign and enjoy success going forward. If that doesn’t happen, though, it could be the beginning of the end for the Italian.
Still, there is time for Chelsea to make things right over the next few weeks.
