The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern had mixed opinions of their side’s performance against Tottenham over the weekend…
Whilst the scoreline certainly reflected that the side had some fight in them against their London rivals, other supporters are bemoaning another defeat under Slaven Bilic – leading to a mass debate in the Transfer Tavern.
Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale, though, has been far more succinct and frank about West Ham’s performance as he graded their display as part of a column on the official Sky Sports website.
Giving their performance a B, it’s clear that there were some positive takeaways. However, Gale’s assessment of West Ham’s performance was clear, and he has made no bones about where they went wrong: “Defensively they made too many mistakes”.
In truth, mistakes at the back have been commonplace at West Ham this season, and whilst it may have cost them against Tottenham, the impact of their mistakes could be even more significant if they continue in that vein all season long.
Whilst the likes of Javier Hernandez and Andy Carroll are looking potent going forward, their problems at the back remain, and Bilic must solve this issue.
With a goal difference of -7, there is a lot of work to be done.
The positives for West Ham are that they proved that they can hang with some of the best sides in the Premier League. They won’t face many opponents tougher than Tottenham, and they held their own.
At points, they looked excellent, but Bilic just needs to make his team more consistent, particularly at the back.
