The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern think that their side has spent well this summer…
The acquisition of Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof have certainly placed Man Utd in a strong position ahead of the new season, but the latter of that trio could be a problem this season according to Sky Sports pundit Alan Pardew.
Pardew said: “They needed a centre-back in particular but Lindelof’s performance against Real Madrid was concerning and there’s been a bit of concern over him in pre-season”.
He added: “At the moment I think he’s finding it a struggle”.
Lindelof’s poor form is certainly a worry for the Red Devils, and Pardew is quite right that the position has been a problem area for the Red Devils for a while.
It must be noted that Lindelof’s Man Utd career has only just started, and it would be wrong to write him off at this stage. But he clearly needs to improve.
Alan Pardew is a very experienced manager, so he is well aware of what it takes to succeed in the Premier League. It’s hard to argue that Lindelof has shown that he is sure to be a hit in the English top flight.
His lack of awareness and general poor defensive contributions are very worrying, particularly given Mourinho’s lack of quality in that position, and he needs to turn it around quickly.
That said, he hasn’t even played a Premier League game yet, and so he must be given time to adjust. He is also just 23-years-old, and so he needs to be given time to develop and grow as a player. Mourinho is one of the best in the world at building defensive talent, and so the Portuguese boss should be able to work wonders.
There are warnings signs there, though.
