Here at the Football Transfer Tavern we recognise that the injuries seem to be piling up for Tottenham Hotspur and talkSPORT report that they may have their eye on Josip Ilicic to boost numbers in midfield.
The Palermo player has caught the eye of Andre Villas-Boas since his Chelsea days, and given the recent injury to Sandro, AVB may consider a midfield reshuffle with the Slovenian international firmly back in the manager’s thinking. Ilicic has been a constant fixture in the Palermo side being their most regularly deployed player in Serie A last term with 36 appearances.
The attacking midfielder is believed to be open to a move, however the club themselves have claimed: “We have to strengthen ourselves, not sell players. Palermo will not sell their regular players. Ilicic won’t move away from Palermo, he must recover his form. He will stay with us for a couple of years and then we will see.”
AVB has of course secured the signing of Schalke’s Lewis Holtby and the club are eagerly awaiting his arrival in the summer – with reports in The Mirror even claiming he could arrive before that. The Adebayor African Cup of Nations saga rolls on and the injuries and suspensions that are mounting for the club can prove costly at this time of year – something AVB knows only too well from his Chelsea days.
With the Europa League back soon the Portuguese manager is keen to add to the squad if the right player is available and it seems that Ilicic could be than man.
