Newcastle United supporters have been pretty upbeat in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their club start 2018 with back-to-back wins over Stoke City and Luton Town, the latter booking their place in the last 32 of the FA Cup.
Rafa Benitez’s men were just a point and two places above the Premier League’s bottom three heading into the New Year, but they eased their relegation fears somewhat with a crucial 1-0 victory at fellow strugglers Stoke on January 2. And the Magpies backed that up with a comfortable 3-1 success over League Two leaders Luton Town last weekend, with an Ayoze Perez brace as well as a Jonjo Shelvey strike booking their spot in round four, where they await the winners of Norwich City and Premier League champions Chelsea.
Thus, there have been many satisfied Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their side can get much-needed business done during the January transfer window in a bid to pull away from the bottom three in the second half of the season.
And one man who could be on his way to St James’ Park is Chelsea’s Kenedy, who has repeatedly been linked with a move to the North East in recent times, only for no move as of yet to materialise.
And The Newcastle Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has recently shed some light on the situation, suggesting that the loan deal is still at the ‘paperwork stage’, despite the player’s desire to move to Newcastle.
Slight update on Kenedy. Player wants the move to SJP, Benitez understood to have asked #nufc for an update and the loan is still at the paperwork stage. Conte also yet to approve the deal. #cfc

And this recent update has stimulated quite a response from Magpies fans on Twitter, with many fuming at the board for failing to get the deal done, given that it has reportedly been in the offing for some time…
it’s like getting blood out of a stone, I wonder if Mike Ashley has ever bought a round of drinks

This whole kenedy transfer saga I’ve never heard anything like it but it is Newcastle and Chelsea two of the worst clubs around for doing business

It’s taken us 2 windows to get this fringe Chelsea player on loan and it’s still at the paperwork stage lmao. Most embarrassing club for transfers in the PL hands down
— Dell (@agbnufc) January 11, 2018
Conclusion: #NUFC are the slowest and worst club on planet Earth at sealing transfers. Give Lee Charnley a bonus; he does a fantastic job.

Pretty poor really considering how long it’s been going on and still at paperwork stage. Being honest I’m amazed how long it takes us to get players through the door!

Newcastle fans… what do you think? Let us know!
