The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern can’ believe their luck today, as they’ve found out that Manuel Lanzini has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the World Cup in Russia. The Argentine was set to travel to his first World Cup but will now have to deal with the heartbreak of missing out, as he faces up to a year on the sidelines.
No matter what club you support, you wouldn’t want to wish an injury on any top-level professional, especially not this close to the biggest event in the footballing calendar. Sadly though, that’s what Lanzini has had to deal with. The 25-year-old is one of the Hammers best players and on his day he’s capable of tearing the best defence in the world to shreds, unfortunately, though, he won’t have the chance to do so for a long time after such a serious injury.
The West Ham fans propping our bar up will be hoping that they might have their man back fit again by the end of the next season, with a nine-month absence the Argentine maestro could be back fit and playing again my March if all goes well with his rehabilitation process. If Lanzini does make it back fit for the end of the Irons season, he’ll be hoping he can continue to impress at club level and keep his place in La Albiceleste’s 23-man squad.
You can read our local Irons’ verdict on Lanzini here:
Absolutely gutted for Lanzini. No player deserves an injury like that so close to the World Cup. No doubt you’ll come back stronger than ever, @manulanzini! All West Ham fans are behind you! #COYI pic.twitter.com/W8xUUYdaOC

Feeling bad for Argentina and West Ham with this Manuel Lanzini news. An important cog of both teams he’ll not only miss the World Cup but likely most of the season too.

I don’t think West Ham fans are ever allowed to be remotely happy. See you in a year Lanzini

Devastated for Lanzini. Why does it always happen to West Ham players?

I love West Ham and club football, but nothing in all of sports can match the magic of the World Cup. For Lanzini to miss that opportunity, especially to play alongside a legend like Messi, with a real chance to win. So depressing.

Whilst West Ham fans will no doubt miss having their best player available when the domestic season comes around, the fans understand how hard it must be for the playmaker to be missing the World Cup on the coming weeks.
