The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent today celebrating their side’s win against Brighton. The Lilywhites have struggled in recent weeks, but they have now picked up two wins from their last two league games, suggesting that their form is finally returning.
Following the game, Mauricio Pochettino singled out one man for particular praise, and he even went as far as to suggest just how important he will be this season. The man in question is Erik Lamela, and though he has missed much of the last year through injury, the Argentine looks set for a big few months.
According to Football.London, Pochettino said: “I think it is so important [Lamela’s return], he brought fantastic energy to the team and the last few weeks too. It’s normal and he needs time to give his best”.
He added: “I think it’s so important for the team to have him fit again and I think he’s going to help us a lot”.
Pochettino’s comments clearly speak volumes of Lamela’s potential in the side this season, with the Argentine likely to feature prominently going forward.
He’s been recovering and returning to match fitness in recent weeks, of course, but he’s moving past that process now – and he looks set to be a very important player for Tottenham this season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s squad isn’t particularly strong in terms of depth, and so everybody is important, including the Argentine winger. He’ll look to provide competition for the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen this term.
Lamela’s Tottenham career looked over at one point, owing to his injury status, but clearly, Poch still views him as having an important role this season.
