So Is There An Embargo On Swansea Players, Or Isn’t There?

Despite being told he won’t be allowed to sign any Swansea City players during his first year at Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers may be looking at striking a deal for playmaker Joe Allen.

As the former Reading and Watford boss starts work at Anfield, he is planning to evolve Liverpool into a team that can effectively deploy his 4-3-3 system and adding a skilful ball player in the middle of the park.

A move for Hoffenheim’s Gylfi Sigurdsson fell through as the Icelandic international chose a move to Andre Villas-Boas’ Tottenham, but Rodgers did manage to secure the signing of Roma striker Fabio Borini – both moves showed how Rodgers was hoping to build his team on a foundation of players he’d previously worked with, and Allen is another player who fits into that category.

Now, despite being told that no Swansea players would be moving to Anfield this summer, the Metro are reporting that Rodgers has made one final effort to tempt Michael Laudrup into selling the Welsh international. Swansea are believed to be committed to keeping Allen unless a huge bid comes in for him and why not? Allen was a key part in Swansea’s superb debut season in the Premier League.

But in a club with such big expectations in a time of rebuild, I think that Allen would be better of staying at the Liberty Stadium anyway.

Swansea are a team on the up and he can continue his development under a manager who plays great football in Laudrup, whilst also guaranteeing himself first team football in the near future. Can such a promise be made at Anfield with Lucas Leiva, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and the returning Alberto Aquilani in the frame?
