Jose Mourinho did a lot of things right at Man Utd, but he also got a lot of things wrong. Perhaps the most significant of those came defensively, with the Portuguese unable to bring in the correct players to solve his problems at the back.

Inconsistency and low quality remained a constant throughout his tenure, and players like Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof were unable to solve the problems.

If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is going to be successful, then, it's important that he manages to achieve what Mourinho couldn't - by improving the defence. Man Utd, it is said, are looking to rectify that problem, but it may come too later for the manager.

According to journalist Nicolo Schira, who, despite his lack of verification on Twitter currently works for La Gazzetta dello Sport, among others, Roma defender Kostas Manolas the target of a move to Man Utd in the summer - with the club apparently willing to pay his release clause to get a deal done.

He'd be a fantastic summer recruit, of course, but if possible, Solskjaer should do all he can to attempt to bring in the Greek defender this month, as he could help to turn Man Utd's season even further in the correct direction.

Manolas is, in many ways, the complete defender. Rated at £40.5m by Transfer Markt, Manolas offers incredible tackling and strength at the back, whilst his technical ability is also straight out of the top drawer. Able to pass out from the back but still knock it out of the stadium if needs be, Manolas always seems to know what he's doing and he always makes the correct decision, and Man Utd haven't had enough of that of late.

At 27-years-old, he's at the perfect age for Man Utd, too. He's old enough to the point in which he's got years of experience, but at the same time, he's got more than a few years ahead of him at the highest level. He ticks all the boxes, and he would give the Man Utd boss the best chance of staying in the job beyond the end of the year.
