The Spurs fans in the Transfer Tavern have been showering their Korean livewire, Heung-Min Son, in praise after he collected his 3rd Best Footballer in Asia award. The award was given to Son in 2014 and 2015 prior to him picking it up for his 2017 displays, impressively, the 25-year-old has won it the most amount of times since the inaugural award was given to Keisuke Honda in 2013.

Son and Honda are joined by Leicester City’s Shinji Okazaki as the three players who have won the award, although Son’s multiple collections of the honour are even more impressive. Son has won Best Footballer in Asia on merit too, the versatile forward scored 23 goals for Tottenham in all competitions in 2017 and helped the club secure Champions League football with his input last season.
Whilst it’s always nice to be recognised for individual displays, Son will be looking forward to finishing the season on a high note with Spurs. The Lilywhites bowed out of the FA Cup losing 2-1 to Manchester United on Saturday, but they can still finish 3rd in the Premier League and ensure they’ll be moving into their new stadium whilst playing football at Europe’s top table next year. This season and last have seen Tottenham playing back-to-back seasons in the Champions League for the first time and that’s in no small part down to the form of Son and co.
