South American keen on Newcastle United move as Toon await top manager’s transfer decision

Newcastle United fans will be looking over their shoulders with some discomfort, with the Magpies very much involved in a relegation scrap this season.

Rafa Benitez’s men lie just two points clear of the bottom-three, and must improve over the course of the second half of the season if they are to pull clear of the dreaded drop. Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are well aware of the threat their side face, and are keen to see the club flex their financial muscles in the transfer window. However with Benitez being told to sell before he can buy, a couple of loan deals appear most likely, with Chelsea’s Kenedy the man most strongly linked with a move to St James’ Park. Our landlord was able to provide fans with an update today, with news revealed on Twitter by Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder that the player is open to the move, but any potential deal remains at the paperwork stage, with Chelsea boss Antonio Conte yet to put his stamp on the transfer.

The deal appears to be held up at Chelsea’s end which will seriously frustrate all associated with Newcastle, and Benitez will hope his former club begin to relent in their demands, and allow the Brazilian to make the switch to the north east very soon.

Landlord’s Verdict: This deal is becoming a bit of a farce. Chelsea appear to be open to the deal, but something is holding Conte back. Whether the manager is waiting on a replacement remains to be seen, but it is likely this deal will go through in the next few weeks.

Benitez will however be keen to get the deal done as soon as possible, with key fixtures coming thick and fast in the coming weeks. Newcastle need to keep pushing for the deal, because Kenedy will certainly improve the squad at St James’ Park.
