The current rumour being bounded around over by the darts board is that the 52-year old is content and willing to continue his role at the helm of the club, but he would like some reassurances by the club’s officials that they still match his ambitions and will not allow their top players to leave, like they have done in recent seasons.

Koeman admitted that he his relationship with everybody involved with the football club is positive, but suggested that his current contract situation is not the most significant issue right now.

“It is true that the club and I are having talks about the future. I have a terrific relationship with everyone at the club. We are constantly in contact and we talk about the ambitions of Southampton and about budgets for the future.”

“But I don’t see the need to take a decision at the moment. My contract runs on for another year anyway.”
