Southampton confirm Danny Ings deal

Southampton managed to get a last-minute deal through on transfer deadline-day that will help to improve their squad.

The club have announced on their official website confirmation that Danny Ings has joined the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit initially on a season-long loan, ahead of a permanent move next summer.

The former Liverpool man becomes Mark Hughes’ fifth signing, following the arrivals of Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi.

It is believed the Saints managed to beat a host of competition for the 26-year-old and will be hoping he can make the same sort of impact that he produced for Burnley before his time with the Anfield outfit was hampered with a number of injuries.

During his time at Turf Moor, he made 130 appearances for the Clarets and netted 43 times, showing that he has the ability to play at the top-level of the game.

The Verdict:

Southampton will be delighted to have landed Ings this summer after they had spent a long time monitoring him.

The forward will be hoping to resurrect his career in the town where he was born and will feel that he has a point to prove following all the injury problems he had at Liverpool.

The Saints would have needed a striker to boost their attacking options and will be hoping Ings can be the player to help get them up the Premier League table.
