Southampton considering a deal for Ben Gibson

Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been getting very excited about the upcoming Premier League campaign with the signings that have been made.

Mark Hughes has been busy rebuilding the Saints after he managed to guide them to safety by the skin of their teeth and is continuing to try and strengthen his side for the long season ahead.

Southampton have already added the likes of Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi to their ranks, with Jannik Vestergaard and Angus Gunn both rumoured to be on the verge of joining up with them at the St. Mary’s Stadium.

However, according to reports by TeamTALK, it appears that Hughes is not quite finished with his recruitment drive and is looking at the possibility of adding another defender to his squad.

The media outlet are claiming that the Saints remain interested in Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson and could be prepared to offer Sam McQueen in a possible swap deal for the player.

The Boro man is keen on making a return to the Premier League and it is thought that Southampton is the most likely destination for the player to land.

The Verdict:

Gibson has been on the radar of a number of Premier League clubs for some time following his performances for Middlesbrough when they were in the Premier League.

The defender would certainly help to improve Hughes’ side at the back and would be a smart addition for the manager to make.

It has appeared that Boro have been preparing to accept that Gibson could be about to leave the Riverside Stadium this summer, with the recent additions of Aden Flint and Paddy McNair, and Southampton could be in an ideal situation to bring him to the south coast.
