Southampton head into another Premier League season with yet another new manager, despite relative success under sacked manager Claude Puel last term.
The Saints have established themselves as one of the Premier League’s steadiest outfits over the past few seasons, and despite seemingly constantly losing their better players, they have continued to impress and build.
This summer could see them lose star centre-back Virgil Van Dijk, but our landlord here in the Tavern thinks there are replacements out there. One place he thinks the club could look, is in the Championship, and specifically, at Sunderland.
The man he thinks could do the business? Defender Lamine Kone.
The big defender has made clear his desire to leave the club and play in the top flight, and while this attitude might not be exactly what you need, there is little doubting his talents.
Kone came to England and immediately impressed, before falling foul to some lacklustre Sunderland performances last term as they went down from the Premier League.
However, Kone does look to be a top class defender on his day, and is someone who could no doubt do a job on the south coast. With new manager Pellegrino at the helm, Kone could well relish the chance to get back into the top flight and strut his stuff on a weekly basis.
A solid looking signing, he would not cost the world, and would give the Saints a good defensive option should they lose their star Dutch defender.
Saints fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know!
