Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has confirmed that injured duo Moussa Djenepo and Cedric Soares have now returned to training (via the club’s official website).
The pair have been sidelined since September with respective knocks, but it looks as though they are making steady progress and shouldn’t be too far away from returning to action.
Summer signing Djenepo has been out since exacerbating a tendon problem against Sheffield United in mid-September – a match where the Mali international scored the only goal of the game as the Saints edged past the Blades 1-0 – while Cedric has been ruled out since withdrawing from the starting line-up away at Tottenham Hotspur at the end of September.
Hasenhuttl revealed in his pre-match press conference that this weekend’s trip to Manchester City will probably come too soon for the duo to feature, though they do stand a good chance of playing against Everton at St Mary’s on November 9th.
Can Moussa Djenepo rescue Southampton's season?
Yan Valery has lined-up at right-back for Southampton in the absence of Portugal international Cedric, but he has struggled for form and last week was part of the back-line that conceded nine goals against Leicester City.
In the case of Djenepo, his injury came at a really frustrating time as he was just starting to find form in a Southampton shirt after his summer move from Standard Liege, averaging an impressive 2.7 dribbles per game (via WhoScored), showing the direct threat he brought to this side.
