The Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern don’t want to see him go…
For all of Jurgen Klopp’s achievements at Liverpool so far – one thing has, at present, remained elusive for the German boss.
Despite numerous attempts to get the best out of him, Daniel Sturridge is still yet to start firing under Klopp – and in truth, the Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have got one eye on the exit door, with the expectation being that the English forward could leave the club.
Klopp would, undoubtedly, be hesitant to let the once-prolific striker leave the club, but Sturridge is seemingly not really in his plans at present, and so if a move is made for the Englishman – the German may have no choice but to let him leave.
A departure, then, is beginning to look more likely – as teams begin to consider Sturridge ahead of the January transfer window.
According to the Daily Mirror, it would appear that Southampton are looking to lead the chase for the Sturridge – with the prospect of a January loan move ahead of a potential £25 million permanent deal on the cards.
The deal will not be an easy one, though, with the Mirror also reporting that the likes of AC Milan, West Ham and Stoke are also keen on Sturridge.
It has been quite the fall from grace for the English forward, who just a few years ago was scoring on a weekly basis alongside Luis Suarez. Injury troubles have plagued him over the last few seasons – and that has played a large role in his lack of game time.
What is Liverpool’s loss could well be Southampton’s gain, though, with the Saints perhaps too reliant on the likes of Charlie Austin for goals this season. A move for Sturridge would look to allay some of the pressure upon his English compatriot.
Our landlord thinks that whilst Sturridge is in poor form, he is still the player that he was when he first moved to Anfield – and Puel could be the man to get it back out of him.
