Southampton eyeing January move for Rafael Toloi

Southampton are thought to already be looking ahead to the January transfer window as they look to make improvements to their squad.

The Saints have not had the best of starts in the Premier League this season, having won just one of their opening six games of the campaign.

The defence appears to be an area for concern at the moment, with Mark Hughes’ side having already shipped nine goals.

However, it appears that the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit are already preparing to try and mend those problems, with reports suggesting the club are interested in a player in the Serie A.

According to Sport Mediaset, Southampton are said to be eyeing up a possible move for Atalanta enforcer Rafael Toloi this January.

The Brazilian centre-back has been a consistent performer for the Italians and his displays have not gone unnoticed, with the Saints the latest team to have taken an interest.

The Verdict:

Hughes will be desperate to tighten things up at the back after it appears the addition of Jannik Vestergaard has not quite worked as well as they would have liked.

Going on his current form and recent performances, the £9.9million-rated enforcer, as per Transfermarkt, would certainly help to make them a lot more sturdy at the back.

However, it remains to be seen if Atalanta will entertain any offers for their key man in the winter, as they will likely want to keep hold of him for their own efforts.
