The Southampton fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see some business done to get things back on track after manager Claude Puel was sacked after just a year in charge.
The powers that be on the south coast made signings between the departure of Ronald Koeman and Puel’s arrival last season, meaning additions could be likely before a successor to the Frenchman is appointed.
However, director of football Les Reed and head of recruitment Ross Wilson will supposedly face a battle to land Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson.
The Saints have been linked with a £20m move for the Boro man, in a deal which would break the club-record fee at St. Mary’s.
According to reports from the Northern Echo, though, the Championship side are reluctant to sell the 24-year-old as they look to raise funds with the sale of Gaston Ramirez, Adama Traore and Marten de Roon.
Our landlord reckons that should the south coast side come back with an attractive enough personal offer for Gibson, then Boro would struggle to stop him making an instant return to the Premier League.
Saints fans, we want to hear from you! What do you make of Ben Gibson? Should you be able to tempt him from the Riverside? Let us know in the comments below…Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
