After over 250 appearances for Chelsea, it appears that Gary Cahill’s time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.
This has put many Premier League clubs on red alert, as they look to recruit the former England captain for their team. Whilst he does not quite make the grade in new manager Maurizio Sarri’s squad, there is no denying that he would be a massive addition to a huge host of Premier League clubs.
In light of this news, many fans took to Twitter to share their opinions on the defender’s availability, with Southampton fans discussing the potential move. One of our usual punters trawled through Twitter, and reported that fans of The Saints would love to see Cahill at St Mary’s.
Although this would be a hard move to pull off by the south coast club, it would be brilliant nonetheless. Mark Hughes’ men have struggled so far this season, and the manager has tried to tweak his formation to get the best out of his team.
The Welshman has tried to deploy the formation with three centre backs this season, but hasn’t been hugely successful. This is a system that takes some getting used to, and doesn’t suit every player. However, the 32-year-old Cahill was a member of the Chelsea Premier League winning side under Antonio Conte that made the formation fashionable in England. He would fit in very well, and could facilitate playing the way Hughes wishes.
That is not forgetting the fact that he brings a huge amount of experience, and ability, to a side that are currently struggling in the league. This couldn’t be a better deal for the club.
