Southampton midfielder Nathan Redmond has been ruled out of Saints trip to Sheffield United on the weekend, and fans aren’t particularly happy.
Redmond has been out injured after suffering an ankle injury versus Fulham in the EFL Cup in August.
He missed Saints’ 1-1 draw with Manchester United and also had an extended break during the international fixtures, however, he will have to sit out at least one more match.
The forward has been a key player for Ralph Hasenhuttl since he has taken charge of the club on the south coast, scoring six goals and creating four assists. So far this season, Redmond has grabbed one goal – the second goal in Southampton’s 2-0 win over Brighton at the Amex.
Hasenhuttl did admit though that he was ‘making progress’ despite not being able to play.
He said on Thursday: “Everybody is back from their international games without injuries, so that’s good news.
“The bad news is that Nathan is still not available, but he is making progress.”
Understandably, Southampton fans were concerned when they heard the news and gave a mixed response on Twitter. One fan was even counting themselves lucky that Redmond got injured while he did, as it meant that he had an extra week to recover with the international break, while another fan suggested to wrap him in cotton wool until they play Portsmouth in the next round of the Carabao Cup.
Here are some of the best responses below…
As bad as it sounds we’re lucky it came when it did, with the international break

Again.. any reason we need to tell our opponents who is missing ? Why not tell the opposite ? At least try to mess with their opposition analysts a bit.

Great news that Redmond is making a good recovery.
Will be great to have him back soon for what is a mouth-watering set of fixtures this month for #saintsfc
