Southampton defender Wesley Hoedt is preparing for his second loan spell away from the club having joined Belgian side Royal Antwerp on Monday.
The centre-half has failed to settle in at St Mary’s since his arrival from Lazio in 2017, making just 45 appearances for the south coast club in all competitions over two years.
He spent the second half of last season on loan at Celta Vigo, and hasn’t featured competitively for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl since his arrival at the club last December, making it abundantly clear that his future lies away from Southampton.
One of his last appearances for the Premier League outfit came in an embarrassing 6-1 demolition by Manchester City at the Etihad last November, before he was part of a calamitous defence that threw away a lead against now-relegated Fulham to lose 3-2 at Craven Cottage two weeks later.
Here’s what fans of the club had to say about his departure on Twitter.
