Southampton are thought to still be in the transfer market for a striker this summer as they look to rebuild on last season’s disappointing efforts.
Mark Hughes managed to keep the Saints in the Premier League by the smallest of margins when he took over and he will now be desperate to ensure his side is not in a similar position.
Having already bolstered his squad in other areas with the additions of Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Stuart Armstrong and Mohammed Elyounoussi, the manager is now keen on adding some firepower as the team struggled for goals last season.
Southampton have been linked with a number of targets recently, however, they may have just been handed one of their biggest boosts this summer, with reports suggesting one man could be available for a move.
Ings has struggled during his time at Anfield and a move to another Premier League club would certainly help him to try and move on with his career.
There is no doubt that he is a top-flight striker, and with Southampton’s need for a frontman, he could look to rediscover himself on the south coast.
However, there will be concerns that the 25-year-old would be able to stay fit through the course of a long season, following his injury troubles over the years.
