Southampton had move for Marko Rog blocked - Latest News

Southampton made a number of signings in the summer to improve their squad, however, they still find themselves struggling somewhat in the Premier League.

The Saints have won just one of their opening seven fixtures, with that victory keeping them just outside the relegation zone.

Mark Hughes spent some money on bringing in new recruits to help the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit to improve on last year’s poor efforts, but barring the exception of Danny Ings, they have failed to make the desired impact as of yet.

However, it appears that the manager had one other name on his radar in the summer, but the player’s club blocked a potential move to the south coast.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Southampton had a move for Marko Rog blocked by Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti.

It is claimed that the Saints made an offer for the Croatia international, however, the Serie A outfit’s new boss did not want to see the 23-year-old leave the Stadio San Paolo this summer.

The Verdict:

Rog could have been an excellent signing for Southampton as he would have been able to make certain plays happen with his ability to drive forward.

It appears strange that Ancelotti blocked a move for the Croatian, as he has only started one game for Napoli this season in the Serie A.

It remains to be seen if the Saints make a return for him, however, they do already have the likes of Mario Lemina and the impressive Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the centre of midfield.
