Southampton handed fitness boost ahead of West Brom clash

The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Mauricio Pellegrino will be able to turn his side’s form around over the next few weeks. They’ve been on a poor run of form for much of the season, and at present, a relegation battle is beckoning.

Currently sat in 17th place, they are just one point from safety, but that’s far below where they were expected to be at the start of the season.

However, for the moment at least, Mauricio Pellegrino’s attention has firmly shifted away from their Premier League battle and onto the FA Cup. The Saints are set to take on West Brom this weekend as they look to progress into the next round.

Fortunately, ahead of the game, they’ve been handed a fitness boost that should give them a stronger chance of winning the game. According to the Daily Echo, Pellegrino has confirmed that Mario Lemina has been passed fit to feature.

The midfielder, who Southampton signed over the summer, was forced off against Liverpool over the weekend, leading to fears that he could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

However, that doesn’t look likely to be the case – with a return this weekend now likely.

Lemina has started 14 times in the Premier League this season, making a further 5 appearances from the bench.

Landlord’s Verdict

This is a huge boost.

Southampton have been pretty poor this season, but Lemina has continually impressed through the midfield.

He’s been getting into a real strong vein of form over the last few weeks, and that will be crucial as Southampton enter a key part of the season.
