Southampton hit with blow in pursuit of La Liga forward

The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern think that some winter transfer business is needed to take the club to the next level.

However, they appear to have been rebuffed in their attempts to snap up one of the top strikers in Spain.

Paco Alcacer is ready to leave Barcelona this January after growing increasingly frustrated with his lack of first team opportunities at the Nou Camp but he will not consider a move to Southampton, according to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness.

The 24-year-old joined Barcelona in summer 2016 but could leave after a season and a half with the Catalan outfit.

The former Valencia star worked with Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino at his old club but is not keen on a reunion.

Southampton have reportedly made an offer but Alcacer’s head has not been turned by the Saints’ interest.

According to this report, the Spain international would only consider leaving Barcelona for a “solid project”, although it is unclear as to whether he wants to remain in Spain or not.

Paco Alcacer has six goals in thirteen international caps for the Spaniards but has only managed two outings in La Liga for Barcelona this season, picking up one assist.
