Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen a couple of names arrive at St. Mary’s Stadium so far this summer and will be pleased the club are continuing their efforts for new additions.
Mark Hughes is determined to ensure his Saints side is nowhere near the bottom of the Premier League once again following their last-gasp survival last season.
He has already signed Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi and is thought to be in the market for a couple more additions.
According to reports made by Stadio Sport, Southampton are interested in Inter Milan’s Joao Mario and are thought to be in a good position to make the Serie A side a concrete offer for the midfielder.
The Portugal international, who enjoyed a loan spell with West Ham United last season, is thought to be available after he struggled to hit the heights for the Italians following his big-money move from Sporting Lisbon in 2016.
Mario would be a smart signing for the Saints to make as he could replace Dusan Tadic in the side following his departure to Ajax. The attacker obviously made an impression in the Premier League during his time with the Hammers and Hughes must believe the 25-year-old can offer them something going forward.
