Southampton have been busy over the last week or so and the fans in the Transfer Tavern will have been delighted with the activity the club has taken so far.
Mark Hughes is determined to improve his squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League campaign, following last season’s disappointment that ended with the Saints only just surviving.
He has already brought in the likes of Stuart Armstrong and Mohamed Elyounoussi, however, it appears that he remains keen on bringing in more additions.
According to reports by Sky Sports, Southampton are thought to be in talks with Borussia Monchengladbach for Jannik Vestergaard as they look to make him their third summer signing, although a fee is yet to be agreed.
The defender, who has been attracting plenty of interest from other sides in the Premier League with his performances for Denmark, is thought to appeal because of his aerial advantage. Standing at 6ft 7in tall, as well as having the strength needed when going in for a tackle, appeals to the Saints as they look to find an ideal replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Vestergaard would certainly be an attractive addition for the Saints this summer and the locals in the Tavern would be happy to see him arrive.
The Danish defender would immediately improve the defence, that already has the likes of Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida, with his strength and height a huge advantage. Southampton will be hoping that by opening talks earlier than their Premier League rivals will also mean that they can convince him to join them at St. Mary’s before anyone else has a chance.
