Southampton will be desperate to enjoy a strong start to the campaign as this will put them in great stead to avoid getting into a similar position to the last campaign.
The Saints were relegation contenders for a large part of the last campaign as they just couldn’t get going under former boss Mauricio Pellegrino. But, times have changed and Mark Hughes is looking to ring in the changes, as according to the Mirror, Southampton are interested in signing Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater on loan.
Danny Drinkwater is being primed for a move away from Chelsea.
The Blues have already drafted in Brazilian Jorginho this summer so the former Leicester City midfielder has been pushed even further out of Maurizio Sarri’s plans.
However, Southampton aren’t the only team that would be interested in taking the central midfielder on loan if the Blues were to make him available, as Crystal Palace are also taking an interest.
So, it looks as if Southampton are plotting an impressive swoop for one of England’s best central midfielders in the form of a loan deal, but this will only become possible if the Blues make him available.
Although, with a move to Crystal Palace allowing him to stay in the English capital, Southampton may find it hard to persuade him to come to St Mary’s.
