Southampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are desperate to see the transfer window end quickly, with one punter going as far to claim it is the worst time of year for the club.
The Saints have lost some of their finest players over the past 12 months to the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool, and there are now reports linking Victor Wanyama with a move to Tottenham before the close of the window.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern points out that Ronald Koeman has done a fantastic job on the south coast considering some of the names he has lost, so would Wanyama be such a loss for the right price?
One man who doesn’t agree is Southampton’s legendary defender Francis Benali, who has become concerned by Tottenham’s reported interest in the former Celtic midfielder.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino worked with Wanyama during his time in charge on the south coast, and will attempt to lure him to north London before the close of the transfer window.
“We have got quality players in midfield and strength in depth in the squad now,” Benali told talkSPORT.
“But, having lost Morgan, if we were to lose Victor Wanyama as well, that would leave a huge gap in physical presence in the midfield that would be hard to fill.”
Our resident Southampton fans here in the Transfer Tavern feel it is essential that the club keep hold of Wanyama, with them all agreeing that the ex-Celtic man is pivotal the club’s successes this season!
