Southampton may look to continue with their transfer business this summer as Mark Hughes looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the upcoming Premier League season.
The Saints finished just outside the relegation zone at the end of the campaign and their manager will be determined to make sure that does not happen again.
Hughes has already added a number of players to his squad to try and strengthen them, however, he could be about to add an experienced Premier League man to help them with their aims.
The Gunners are thought to be ready to offload the England international and he could be a player that helps improve the Saints immediately.
However, there is thought to be plenty of competition for the former Manchester United attacker, with the likes of Everton and AFC Bournemouth also considered as possible landing spots before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Welbeck would be an excellent addition if Southampton were to land him this summer, as he would provide them with a new attacking option.
The 27-year-old would give the Saints pace in the final third whilst his experience with the bigger clubs and country would be welcomed at the St Mary’s Stadium.
However, it remains to be seen if Welbeck would choose to make a move down to the south coast with Southampton, or possibly choose someone else should he decide to leave Arsenal this summer.
