Southampton have not had the best start to the Premier League campaign this season, as their problems of last year appear to still be relevant.
And, the pressure is thought to be building on Mark Hughes at the St. Mary’s Stadium as each game passes.
The Saints find it difficult to find the back of the net on a consistent basis, although Danny Ings has helped to improve that somewhat.
However, it appears that Hughes is about to try and resolve those problems during the winter transfer window, with one potential coup on their radar.
According to a report by the Daily Mirror, Southampton are one of three clubs thought to be interested in bringing Edin Dzeko back to the Premier League.
The former Manchester City striker, who helped the Etihad Stadium outfit to two titles in his five years at the club, has admitted that he would be open to a return to English football but stated that he was happy at Roma for the time being.
Dzeko would be a huge coup for Southampton and it would be easy to feel that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international would help to improve things drastically.
The striker netted 72 goals during his time with Manchester City and would certainly offer Hughes’ side the attacking threat they have lacked for a long period of time.
However, with him being happy at Roma and other Premier League sides thought to be interested, it remains to be seen if the Saints can convince the 32-year-old to join them in the winter.
