Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern could see their season go from bad to worse at the end of the campaign as reports loom that other Premier League sides are interested in one of their best players.
The Saints have found this season difficult and the locals have seen their side to drop into the bottom three, with the fight for survival looking an envious task. They have already changed their managers and would have been hoping Mark Hughes would have provided the spark needed, although they have failed to turn things around.
Punters could be set to see one of their star defenders leave in the summer, regardless of whether they stay in the Premier League or play Championship football, with clubs rumoured to be interested in Ryan Bertrand.
The Sun are claiming Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Everton are all considering to make a possible £25million bid for the England international, who is said ready to quit the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit. Manchester City were interested last summer, although it appears the left-back is no longer on their radar.
A Champions League winner, Bertrand is reportedly likely to seek a fresh challenge in the summer, whether or not his side manage to stay up this season under Mark Hughes.
Widely regarded as one of the most solid full-backs in the league, the Saints fans in our bar actually wouldn’t mind seeing him depart after some of his performances this season, though are hoping for big money.
The Southampton fans in the Tavern will be bracing themselves for another raid from a Premier League side, which has become the norm for the south-coast outfit, and Bertrand is the main focus of interest. Saints locals will want their club to do the most to keep him, however, he is thought to favour a new challenge in the future.
