Southampton make offer for Kevin Malcuit

Southampton are continuing to look for new transfer targets this summer as they want to improve their squad for the upcoming campaign.

The Saints have already added a couple of players in different positions to try and make sure a repeat of last season’s Premier League does not happen again.

Mark Hughes’ side managed to just retain their top-flight status by the skin of their teeth and the Welshman has been working hard to bolster the squad.

However, it appears the manager is not quite finished with his transfer business this summer and has made a full-back one of his main priorities, according to reports in Italy.

Gianluca Di Marzio are claiming that Lille defender Kevin Malcuit is interesting Southampton and has stated that the Saints have made a bigger offer than Napoli for the player.

The 27-year-old, who only joined his current club a year ago, has attracted interest from all around Europe, however, it is believed the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit are the favourites to land him.

The Verdict:

Southampton are keen to add to their defensive core and Malcuit would be a solid addition if they were able to convince him to join.

The defender would be expected to cost the Saints a large fee having only joined Lille last summer and it is thought he could cost in the region of at least £16million.

Southampton already have Cedric Soares in that position, so it would be expected that Malcuit would need to challenge with the Portugal international for the starting role.
