And clubs are clearly aware that they have the cash to splash as according to the Daily Express, Southampton have been told they will need to pay £16 million for Argentine international defender Marcos Rojo.
New Saints boss Ronald Koeman has reportedly already had an offer of £11 million rejected by Sporting Lisbon but reports suggest that the defender is available for the right price.
However the reply may make Southampton’s pursuit that little bit harder as Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea were also interested in the player who appeared in the World Cup.
And the trio may reignite their interest in the defender now they know that he is definitely up for sale.
Southampton certainly have the firepower this summer having generated over £90 million from their squad exodus.
Rojo is open to leaving his domestic side Sporting Lisbon, and admitted he would consider his options from the 30th July.
He said: “We still do not know what my future will be.
“For now I intend to return to Sporting on the 30th July, and then we’ll see.
“It is a matter for the club and my representatives. I’m cool.”
The Saints did manage to bring Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand in on a season-long loan however, and interestingly, he plays in Rojo’s position of left back.
