More transfer activity is expected at Southampton before the window shuts next month with both arrivals and departures still likely.

And one player who could be heading towards the St. Mary's exit door is Sofiane Boufal.

The Breakdown

According to the Daily Echo, Boufal is looking for a new club after being left out of Southampton's pre-season preparations following a bust-up with manager Mark Hughes towards the end of last season.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Boufal after Southampton beat off reported interest from the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea for the Moroccan's signature (via the Guardian), but the 24-year-old has failed to deliver and his St.Mary's career now looks to be over.

So far in attack, Southampton have brought in Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel, but the Saints still look a bit light in that department and could perhaps do with the addition of another forward player.

With Boufal's St. Mary's exit inevitable, Southampton should consider making a move for Tottenham's £18m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Erik Lamela to reinforce the squad's attack.

After a series of injuries, Lamela has now returned to full fitness and is starting to find some form, with his two-goal performance in Tottenham's 5-4 Premier League win over Leicester City on the final day of last season a display of his true quality.

Mauricio Pochettino rates his compatriot highly but with Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura all in the squad, Lamela may find playing time hard to come by for the upcoming campaign.

And if so, Southampton must try to sign the Argentina international.
