Southampton name their price for Matt Targett

Southampton are keen to keep their best players at the club this summer as they prepare for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Mark Hughes is determined to improve his side following their disappointing season, where he managed to guide them to safety with just one match to go.

The Saints have been busy rebuilding their side during the transfer window and have brought in the likes of Angus Gunn, Jannik Vestergaard, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Stuart Armstrong to help give them some added quality.

Dusan Tadic and Sofiane Boufal are amongst a few to have left the St. Mary’s Stadium outfit this summer, however, one club have now been told the price they will need to pay should they want to land one of the Soton’s defenders.

According to a report in The London Evening Standard, Southampton have told Fulham they will need to stump up with £15million if they want to sign Matt Targett permanently.

The 22-year-old spent the second half of last season with the Craven Cottage outfit and was instrumental in their efforts to getting promoted to the top-flight through the Championship play-offs.

The Verdict:

Southampton appear willing to let Targett leave this summer and would do well to get the £15m fee they want for him.

The talented left-back could have a future at the St. Mary’s if he were to stay, but it seems Hughes is prepared to cash-in on the player now.

The two clubs are thought to be sitting at around £10m at the moment, however, with the Saints not in a desperate position to sell, this could be one that goes down to the wire.
