Southampton open talks about a move for Joakim Maehle

Ralph Hasenhuttl has already managed to offload some of his fringe men at Southampton this winter.

However, it appears he is making moves to try and make his first addition as Saints boss this January.

According to a report in The Daily Mail, Joakim Maehle is thought to be on his radar and the Premier League outfit have already opened talks with Genk about a deal.

The right-back, who can also play in midfield, is a Denmark Under-21 international and Hasenhuttl appears to be keen to add a defender to help them pull away from the relegation zone.

Cedric Soares is expected to leave Southampton in the near future and the Austrian manager is thought to have Maehle as his main target.

The Verdict:

Hasenhuttl is yet to make an addition at Southampton, however, Maehle could be his first.

The 21-year-old has been making a name for himself in Belgium with Genk and certainly looks to be an exciting prospect with a bright future ahead of him.

Should Soares depart, the Saints will need to bring a right-back to the club in order to strengthen their chances of survival.
