Southampton fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are excited by their managers’ intentions after The Mirror revealed that Ronald Koeman is plotting a move to land Galatasaray superstar Wesley Sneijder.
As audacious as the rumour may seem, the Dutch international has had an issue with the Turkish club concerning pay in recent weeks so a move could well happen in January.
It is reported that the Saints will be able to find the funds following their huge fire sale last year with the Turkish giants keen to get him off their wage bill.
It is understood the former Real Madrid and Inter Milan midfielder has earned an incredible £25 million net in the last five years.
Koeman may be willing to pay over the odds for the 30-year-old following his side’s straight run of five consecutive defeats including the shock defeat to Sheffield United at the Capital One Cup quarter-final stage on Tuesday evening.
Despite this recent run of poor form, Saints’ generally impressive start to the season could tempt Sneijder into a move to St Mary’s and his first to English shores.
Southampton fans. Do you think you stand a fair chance of landing Wesley Sneijder or is this an outrageous rumour in every sense? Let us know your thoughts below.
