2.9 tackles, 1.5 key passes… The exciting star Man City want to pluck from PL rivals

The Transfer Tavern’s Southampton drinkers are cursing Pep Guardiola, amid news Manchester City could be the latest club to prise away one of their top stars.

Southampton have developed an unfortunate reputation of surrendering their prize assets to fellow Premier League clubs, with a whole host joining the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United over the last few summers.

Saints punters in the Tavern reckon their club has a much better chance of holding onto key personnel in the next transfer window, but that could well depend on whether Manchester City come good on their reported interest in right-back Cedric Soares.

According to ESPN, the Citizens are tracking the Portugal international, whilst several other big clubs are said to be monitoring his progress as well, with Guardiola making the acquisition of a new right-back one of his priorities this summer.

Soares has consistently impressed since arriving in the Premier League, averaging 2.9 tackles and 1.5 key passes per match this term, and showed his capacity to play at a higher level last summer, starting regularly as Portugal won the Euro 2016 title in France.

At the Etihad Stadium, meanwhile, right-backs Bacary Sagna and Pablo Zabaleta both look likely to move on when their contracts expire in the summer. City-supporting drinkers in the Tavern reckon Soares would be a solid if unspectacular replacement.
